Why positions matter in service
A position is protocol you can hold in your body. Instead of saying that you are ready, attentive or sorry, you kneel, stand or bow in a way you have both agreed means exactly that, and the posture keeps saying it for as long as you hold it. That is why positions sit at the heart of slave training: they turn obedience into something physical, repeatable and easy to judge.
They also give a scene its punctuation. A position called between tasks resets the mood and gives the submissive a moment of stillness in which to settle. Learned well, a handful of positions replaces a surprising amount of talk.
The six core positions, one by one
Every Mistress names and shapes Her positions to Her own taste, so learn Hers rather than this list. Most sets, though, include some version of these six:
- Kneel and wait: kneeling, sitting back on your heels, back straight, hands resting palms down on your thighs and eyes lowered. It says you are ready and waiting, and it is the home position you return to between commands.
- Inspection: standing with feet shoulder-width apart, hands clasped behind your head, chin level and eyes forward. It opens the whole body to Her appraisal, though online Her eyes on it need cam2cam in a partner room.
- Present: kneeling upright, lifted off your heels, with both hands held out in front of you, palms up. It is the posture of offering, used when you hold something up to the lens for Her, such as a crop or a collar, or offer nothing but yourself.
- Attention: standing straight, heels together, arms at your sides or hands clasped behind your back, eyes lowered. It is the posture for receiving orders, a correction or a verdict.
- The bow: kneeling with your forehead lowered to the floor and your hands flat beside your head or stretched out in front. It expresses deep respect or apology, and in most sets it is the most humbling position of all.
- At heel: kneeling at Her side and facing the way She faces, as if beside Her chair. Online that means kneeling beside your screen rather than in front of it, and it pairs naturally with a collar and leash.
How a Mistress calls a position
Positions are called with a single word, spoken once: "Kneel." "Inspection." "Present." "Bow." Some Mistresses number them instead, so that a sharp "three" is enough, and some add a hand signal, such as a finger pointed at the floor for the bow, which works well on cam because you can see Her even when She is silent. The release is a word too, usually "rest" or "up", and until you hear it the position holds.
Learn Her words exactly, as you would learn the titles She expects; our guide on how to address a Mistress covers that other half of protocol. A good way to learn a set is to write it out by hand, with Her word for each, before the session in which She first uses it. Many Mistresses also grant a rest position, such as sitting cross-legged on the floor, as a reward in the middle of a long session.
Moving between positions without breaking protocol
Transitions are where protocol shows. These are the usual rules, which most Mistresses adjust rather than replace:
- Move on the word, directly and smoothly, without a detour through sitting down or stretching.
- Return to kneel and wait between positions unless She calls the next one straight away.
- Keep your eyes lowered while you move, then let them settle where the new position puts them.
- Hold still once you are in place; small shifts of weight to keep the blood moving are allowed and wise.
- Wait for the release word before leaving a position, and rise slowly, one knee at a time, with a hand on something steady.
- If your body tells you to stop, break position at once and explain afterwards: safety always outranks protocol.
Knees, joints and sensible time limits
Kneeling looks passive and is not: your weight rests on your kneecaps and the tops of your feet, and positions like the bow add strain to the lower back and neck. Use knee pads, a thick folded blanket or a kneeling cushion on anything harder than carpet, and treat hold times as something you build: two to five minutes for a beginner, adding a minute a week while the position stays comfortable, with longer holds broken up by a stand or a stretch.
Stop at numbness, tingling, pins and needles or joint pain, whatever the timer says, and tell Her afterwards by message. After the bow, lift your head slowly and sit back on your heels for a moment before standing, since coming up quickly from a lowered head can leave you light-headed. If your knees, hips or back make kneeling painful, say so before the session: a good Mistress will give you a standing version or a low stool instead, and if the pain lasts beyond the session, talk to a professional. The BDSM safety guide covers the rest of solo play.
Holding positions for an online Mistress
In a private with one of our own Mistresses, She calls positions and times them, but the session is one-way: you watch and listen, your camera and microphone stay off and there is no chat box. She cannot see whether your back is straight, so the position is held on honour, and holding it perfectly for nobody's eyes but your own is the whole discipline. The audio-only rate some Mistresses set suits position drills well, since your eyes belong on the floor anyway.
Between sessions, positions make good practice: a timed kneel each evening, a set run through from memory, and a written report of how long each was held and where your form slipped, sent as a message because visitors cannot send photos or video. If you want your form corrected live, choose a LiveJasmin partner room marked ↗, where cam2cam is a paid extra in credits on that site; the service tag finds Mistresses who train protocol. The stillness positions build carries straight over to human furniture, where holding still becomes the entire service.
Questions people ask
What are the basic slave positions?
Most sets include kneel and wait, the home position; inspection, standing with hands behind the head; present, kneeling with hands held out palms up; attention, standing straight with eyes lowered; the bow, forehead to the floor; and at heel, kneeling at Her side. Every Mistress names and adjusts them to Her own taste.
How long should I hold a kneeling position?
Start with two to five minutes on padding and add a minute a week while it stays comfortable. Break long holds with a stand or a stretch. Numbness, tingling or joint pain ends the hold at once, whatever the timer says, and a sensible Mistress sets limits you can actually keep.
What is the inspection position?
A standing position in which you set your feet shoulder-width apart, clasp your hands behind your head and keep your chin level, so the whole body is open to Her appraisal. She usually calls it when She wants to look you over, which on DominatrixCam is only possible over cam2cam in a partner room.
What does at heel mean in femdom?
At heel means taking your place at Her side: kneeling beside Her and facing the way She faces, or walking half a pace behind Her. Online you kneel beside your screen rather than in front of it. It often goes with a collar and leash, and it signals closeness as much as obedience.
What if kneeling hurts my knees?
Use knee pads or a thick cushion, shorten the holds, and tell Her before the session so She can give you a standing or seated version. Pain in a joint is a reason to stop, not to push on. If it continues after you have stopped playing, talk to a doctor or a physiotherapist.
Can a Mistress check my positions over cam?
Only in a LiveJasmin partner room marked ↗, with cam2cam paid for in credits on that site. Privates with our own Mistresses are one-way: She calls and times each position but cannot see you, so you hold it on honour and describe your form afterwards in a written message.
