Domestic discipline

Domestic discipline: rules two adults agree, and can end

Domestic discipline is a relationship arrangement in which two adults agree a set of household rules and the consequences for breaking them, often a spanking. It counts only when both people chose it and either can end it at any moment; anything unwanted, coerced or frightening is abuse. In the female-led version, FLDD, the woman holds the authority.

At a glance

  • Domestic discipline is a standing agreement: written rules, consequences chosen in advance, and one partner who applies them, most often with a spanking.
  • Taken in Hand is the name often given to the usually male-led form; female-led domestic discipline, FLDD, puts the woman in charge of the rules and the consequences.
  • The dividing line is agreement: an arrangement between equals who can end it at any time is domestic discipline, and anything unwanted, coerced or frightening is abuse, whatever it is called.
  • Where spanking is used it stays on the fleshy buttocks and upper thighs, hand first and after a warm-up, never in anger, and it stops at sharp pain, numbness or broken skin.
  • Online, a Mistress can set rules and name consequences, but in a one-way private She cannot see or check anything, so you keep the rules on your honour and report in writing.

What domestic discipline means

Domestic discipline puts the rules of a household into words. Two adults agree what they expect of each other, what happens when an expectation is missed, and who carries the consequence out. The word domestic points to the home and the partnership rather than to a scene, and discipline points to rules and correction, not to cruelty. Unlike a scene, which begins and ends in an evening, it runs quietly through the week. Spanking is the consequence most people associate with it, but what defines the practice is agreement, not the implement: both of you wrote the rules, both accepted the consequences, and both keep choosing it.

Taken in Hand and female-led domestic discipline

The name Taken in Hand, often shortened to TiH, echoes an old English idiom: to take someone in hand is to take charge of them and set them straight. In its usual form the husband leads the household and holds his wife to rules the two of them have agreed, with a correction when she breaks one. Some couples build it on their faith and others on a liking for structure. Whatever the framing, it is domestic discipline only where the person being corrected truly wants it.

Female-led domestic discipline, FLDD, turns that picture round. The woman writes or approves the rules, decides the consequences and applies them, while her partner agrees to be held to the standard he asked for. It goes a step beyond a female-led relationship, which may be mostly about who decides what, because it adds standing rules and agreed consequences. It cannot be requested into being, since a woman has to want the role; the femdom for couples guide explains how to raise the subject without pressure.

The line between discipline and abuse

This is the line that matters most, so it is stated without softening. Domestic discipline is an arrangement between equals, chosen freely by both, that either can end at any time without penalty. Anything unwanted, coerced or frightening is abuse, whatever the people involved choose to call it, and calling it discipline changes nothing.

Hold your arrangement up against these five points. It is domestic discipline only if every one of them is true:

  • Both of you chose it, in plain words, without pressure, bargaining or threats.
  • Either of you can stop it at any moment, with a stop word or a plain sentence, and nothing bad follows.
  • The rules are written down and known beforehand, and each consequence was agreed before it was needed.
  • Nothing is improvised in anger. No consequence is given in the heat of an argument or when either of you has been drinking.
  • Your life stays your own. Friends, family, work, health and money are not controlled beyond what you both openly agreed.

Signs it has become abuse, and where to turn

Abuse can grow inside an arrangement that began as play. It has become abuse if one partner is afraid to raise a problem or to say stop; if a stop word is ignored, argued with or punished; if consequences appear that nobody agreed, or grow heavier with each breach; if marks or injuries are made that nobody chose; if money, friends, work or family contact are taken away; or if ending the arrangement brings anger, threats or a penalty.

If you recognise your own home in that description, it is not domestic discipline, however it began and whatever it is called, and it is not your fault. Talk to someone you trust, to a doctor, or to a domestic abuse support service in your own country; they exist to listen and to help you decide what to do next. If you are in danger now, contact your local emergency services.

Setting the rules together

Couples who make domestic discipline last start small and keep it plain. Work through it in this order:

  1. Talk first, out of role and away from the bedroom, about why each of you wants this and what you hope it will change.
  2. Write three to five rules, each specific enough that you would both agree at once whether it had been kept.
  3. Choose a consequence for each rule together, starting with the lightest, and write it beside the rule.
  4. Leave a pause between a breach and its consequence, so that nothing is ever done in anger.
  5. Agree a stop word and a pause signal that either of you can use at any time, with no penalty.
  6. Run it as a one-month trial, then review it together and keep, change or drop each rule.

Consequences, spanking and the safety rules

Rules about conduct work better than rules about moods: "tell me by Thursday if you will be late" can be kept and checked, whereas "never be sulky" cannot. The femdom rules guide has example rules in groups that a couple can adapt.

A consequence should be proportionate, agreed in advance and finished once served, after which the slate is clean. Non-physical ones are the easiest start: lines written by hand, an earlier bedtime, a favourite series paused for a weekend, a written apology. A strict Mistress uses many of the same corrections.

If spanking is part of your arrangement, it follows the impact play safety guide without exception: only the fleshy buttocks and upper thighs, never the spine, kidneys, neck, head or joints; the hand before any implement; a warm-up before anything firm; and a stop at sharp pain, numbness or broken skin. It is never given in anger, never when either of you has been drinking, and never to settle a real argument. See corporal punishment for the formal tradition and femdom spanking for the over-the-knee side.

Check-ins that keep it equal

A short check-in, held out of role, keeps the arrangement between equals: weekly while you are learning, monthly after that, and whenever either of you asks. Each of you says what worked, what felt heavy and which rule you would change, and either can retire a rule without that counting as breaking it. The same conversation is where either of you can pause the whole arrangement, and nothing is owed for doing so.

How an online Mistress offers a version of it

A Mistress cannot share your household, so She offers the structure without it: rules, reports and consequences you carry out yourself. She sets the rules aloud in a private, or you agree them with Her in writing. Your reports are written, because messages to a Mistress carry text only, and She reads them before your next private and names the consequence for each breach aloud, while you listen.

With our own Mistresses a private is one-way: you watch and listen, your camera and microphone stay off, and there is no chat box, so She cannot see you keep a rule, hear you confess one or read a reply. Anything She needs to know goes to Her beforehand, in a message or in Her public room. A consequence you carry out on yourself, such as lines or a count of strokes, rests on your word alone, and a performer can watch you only through cam2cam, a paid extra that exists solely in LiveJasmin partner rooms marked ↗ and is bought in credits on that site.

Private time is billed per minute at Her own rate in US dollars, from a balance you top up in crypto, and nothing is ever arranged in person. If you share your life with a partner, agree these sessions openly together, since a hidden arrangement is the opposite of the equality described here. Questions people ask

What does domestic discipline mean in a relationship?

Two adults agree a set of rules and the consequences for breaking them, and one partner applies the consequence. Spanking is the best-known one, though lines, lost privileges and extra chores are common. It exists only by agreement: both people chose it, and either can end it at any time.

What is female led domestic discipline (FLDD)?

Domestic discipline with the woman in charge: she sets or approves the rules, decides the consequences and applies them, while her partner agrees to be held to the standard he asked for. It works only when she genuinely wants the role.

What is a Taken in Hand relationship?

Taken in Hand, or TiH, is a name for domestic discipline in its usually male-led form: a husband leads the household and corrects his wife by agreement. The same test applies as everywhere else. If it was not freely chosen, or cannot be ended, it is not discipline.

Is domestic discipline the same as abuse?

No. Domestic discipline is chosen by two equals who can end it at any time. Abuse is the opposite: fear, pressure, a stop word that is ignored, consequences nobody agreed, or control of money, friends or work. If it feels like that, it is abuse whatever it is called; talk to someone you trust or a domestic abuse support service.

Can an online Mistress do domestic discipline with me?

She can offer a version: rules set aloud in a private or agreed in writing, written reports from you, and consequences that She names and you carry out yourself. A DominatrixCam private is one-way, so She cannot see or check anything, and the arrangement rests on your honesty. Nothing is ever arranged in person.
