Rubber fetish: heavy, polished and worn by Her

Plenty of people enjoy latex as a look: a glossy dress on a woman who would command the room in anything. A rubberist is different. For him the material is the point, and the woman wearing it is the person who understands that. He notices the gauge of a glove before its colour, can tell fresh rubber from old by the smell, and would rather hear a sleeve creak than see a new outfit photographed under studio lights.

The word has long circulated in rubber clubs, magazines and mail-order catalogues, and the fetish is older than fashion latex. Its roots lie in practical rubber: raincoats and capes, waders, long work gloves and heavy aprons. Rubberists sort rubber by thickness, and hold firm opinions about each gauge:

• Thin latex: well under half a millimetre, the gauge of most fashion catsuits, dresses and stockings; it clings to every line, takes a high polish and moves almost like skin.
• Heavy rubber: a millimetre and upwards, cut from thick sheet or moulded, stiff enough to hold its own shape; capes, aprons, gauntlets and long coats are its classic forms.
• Working rubber: industrial gloves, waders and wet-weather gear made for use rather than display, prized by some rubberists for exactly that honesty.

Ask rubberists how it started and many describe a smell before a sight: the sharp, sweetish scent of a new raincoat, a drawer of gloves, a shop full of wet-weather gear. Smell is the one sense a video feed cannot carry, which is why so many of them keep a piece of their own rubber within reach while they watch.

Sound travels perfectly. A Mistress who knows this audience keeps the microphone close for the snap of a glove cuff, the squeal of polished rubber drawn against itself and the creak of a thick sleeve as She folds Her arms. Where She sets an audio-only rate, a voice session can be built on sound alone: you hear Her dress, polish and move without any picture, and for some rubberists that is the purest form of the fetish.

As for shine, a few prefer rubber matte and dull like the working gear of old; most want it gleaming, and want to watch it being made to gleam.

Thin latex grips dry skin, so it is eased on with talc or a silicone dressing aid, or bought chlorinated so that it slides on without either. Each piece is then smoothed from the centre outwards and polished: a few drops of silicone shiner worked over the surface with a soft cloth, panel by panel, until the light runs cleanly across it.

Many rubber Mistresses make this the opening act of a session. She pulls on gauntlets finger by finger, fastens a cape at the collar, then polishes a boot or a sleeve without hurry while She explains why the shine matters more than you do. No hood, no gas mask and nothing else over your face or head, because anything that restricts breathing is dangerous, and far more so when you are alone. Rubber traps heat, so take it off if you feel faint, overheated or dizzy, and stop whenever something feels wrong.
